The doors have been closed for nearly 10 years, but it is time for a new chapter here at The Kestrel Inn. We looked at many establishments in Powys and surrounding counties, but settled on the Brecon Beacons National Park as our base. Over a period of 12 months, the pub has been resurrected with the help of local trades and specialists. The style is light and comfortable, modern with traditional furniture and a big log burner in the bar.
We are nestled in the heart of the Black Mountains, in the Brecon Beacons National Park. The building has been here for centuries and was originally called “The Half Way Inn”, as it was a coaching stop for travellers between London and the Welsh coast.
We bought and renovated The Kestrel Inn situated in the Brecon Beacons National Park with our three children Ben, Alexander and Annabel. Our family had recently returned from a nine-year adventure in South West France.
Over the years we made many friends involved in artisan wine and food production and look forward to creating a fusion of Mediterranean and Welsh flavours and products.
We are committed to buying our ingredients as locally as possible. Our meat comes from Crickhowell, vegetables and herbs from Three Cocks and beers from 2 local breweries in Brecon and Raglan. In addition we have sourced ciders and Perry from two local Welsh companies and lagers and Gin from North Wales.
Our main focus is food made from scratch on the premises, artisan drinks and fine wines from around the world. The refurb also gave us the chance to create two en-suite bedrooms.
One is a double room and the other a twin room, with the ability to be converted into a double by prior arrangement. Both have en-suites and are on mains pressure hot water tanks, so there is plenty available after a long day on the hills. We look forward to seeing you soon for a coffee, drink, meal or stay in our wonderful setting.
